GLEBE NATIONAL SCHOOL WICKLOW
We were selected to design a 4-classroom extension to an existing school. The challenge with this project was how to fit a large building on a tight site and maintain maximum space for outdoor activities. The solution was to partially sink the building into the ground. The lower classrooms have windows at ground level while the upper classrooms windows look out towards the trees. To emphasise the distinction between the two levels their exterior elevations are finished in different materials. Designed with children in mind we have incorporated playful window configurations which draw in daylight from different aspects and highlighted the building’s entrance with colourful cladding.
